Cold and Cough!!! Home Remedies

Anyone can get a cold or cough. Cough and colds, although, not so serious in most cases, do give us tough times.
Cough and colds are probably the most common illnesses in all age groups.
But, you can easily treat cough and cold with some simple 'do-it-yourself treatments' that will give you a quick and instant relief from the irritating symptoms.
Here are a few home remedies that will work wonders for cough and cold:
Milk and turmeric: Add one teaspoon of turmeric to a glass of warm milk and drink it. This mixture is an effective way to fight cough and cold and is applicable for kids and adults as well. Turmeric can help beat the infection due to its anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties.
Ginger tea: Ginger has a number of health benefits and is an amazing option for treating cough and cold. For colds and flu symptoms, chop fresh ginger into fine pieces and add into a cup of hot water and drink. This will also help relieve a sore throat associated with colds and flu.

Lemon and honey: This mixture is another great option in the treatment of common cold and cough naturally. Add two teaspoon of honey and one teaspoon of lemon juice to a glass of warm water and drink to fight a cold.
Holy Basil leaves (Tulsi leaves) and ginger: Considered as a sacred plant in Hindu belief, tulsi leaves can fight off a range of infections, including colds and cough. To get rid of cough and cold, take one cup of water and add tulsi leaves and a small piece of ginger. Boil this mixture over slow heat till the quantity comes down to half. Drink this at least twice a day. This can be given to kids too.
Garlic: Packed with antioxidants, garlic can protect you aganst a cough and cold. Garlic contains a compound called allicin, which is known to have great anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal properties. Take 4-5 cloves of garlic and sauté it in ghee. Eat this when still warm.
You can also add crashed sautéed garlic in ghee in other dishes like vegetable soups. This will soothe your throat and also help liquefy the thick mucus, making it easier to cough out the phlegm.
