Make your bones Stronger

Keep your bones healthy Cut down on salt, expose yourself to sunshine and exercise regularly for stronger bones.Ahealthy set of bones is vital for good posture, balance and strength. Our bones lose calcium and other minerals and become lighter, and more porous as we age.The following tips can prevent your bones from becoming porous.

Eat calcium-rich food:

The daily calcium intake of adults should be at least 700mg.For those diagnosed with osteoporosis,it should be 1,200mg.Include yoghurt, cheese,a handful of almonds and spinach in your daily diet.

Power of sunshine:

Your body needs Vitamin D to absorb calcium. This is found in fish oil, liver, fortified spreads, cereals, and egg yolk.Your body also makes its own Vitamin D when you are exposed to sunshine.Take in sunshine for 15 minutes two to three times a week.

Obesity with Calories Intake

Obesity means having too much body fat,to the extent that it has an adverse impact on your health. What and how much you eat play a significant role in how much you weigh. Most fat calories, especially saturated fats and trans fatty acids found in junk foods, are immediately stored in fat cells, which add to the bodys weight and girth as they expand and multiply.Carbohydrate calories from cereals, breads, fruits, and vegetables and protein calories from fish, lean meat, skim milk,on the other hand, are converted into fuel almost as soon as they are consumed.

Count your calories

If your calorie intake is more than the calories spent, you put on weight.Certain foods like refined white flour carbohydrates combined with low-fibre intake may also interfere with food and energy metabolism. After the age of 40,the bodys metabolic rate slows down by 5 per cent every 10 years;and if you do not improve your eating habits, you will put on weight.Lack of physical activity and exercise results in low energy expenditure;the result is weight gain and obesity.Obesity tends to run in families, where members have similar diets, exercise regimen, attitude and lifestyle. In childhood, excess calories are converted into new fat cells, while excess calories consumed in adulthood only expand existing fat cells.Since dieting and exercise can only reduce the size of fat cells, not eliminate them, people who were obese as children would have greater difficulty losing weight.Certain medical conditions like thyroid gland disorder may result in weight gain.

Control your Anger!!!

Anger is a negative emotion that hampers growth in life.Accumulated anger can disturb physical, mental, and emotional balance.Anger has to be dealt with scientifically.By nature, human beings are reluctant to deal with things that are not visible.Since you cannot see anger, you often spend your energy in handling the ugly outcome of your outburst rather than dealing with it at the root level.

Find meaningful work

Being involved in meaningful work reduces anger. You often act on borrowed ideas, which overlook your own creativity and emphasize general guidelines for living in a fast-paced,competitive world.Having such a lifestyle has its limitations as it makes little use of your creative right brain.Lack of creative experiments leads you to see life as meaningless and unproductive. When you remain in the meaningless zone for a long time, anger creeps in.You can find out for yourself if you are being unproductive in life.If it is so,then you can work on your routine in such a way that there is scope for being creative.

Some Tips to Live Healthy And Happy!!!

  1. Eat healthy: Being thin might be the look of the day, but it is essential to make sure we consume the required nutrients even if we are on a diet. Intelligent eating is the key. “We must focus on seasonal eating. For example, in summer, we must avoid spicy or processed foods. We should have more salads, sprouts and fruits. In fact 50 per cent of a diet should consist of raw food.” He also advises people to eat up to only 75-80 per cent of their stomach’s capacity. This does not overburden the digestive system.
  2. Exercise: Exercise is the surest, as well as the shortest, way to remain fit and healthy. “In winter it is advisable not to exercise more than one and a half hours, and in summer, not more than an hour. This reduces the chance of dehydration and retains essential salts in the body,” he says.
  3. Meditation: Meditation is an excellent way to relax and rejuvenate oneself. A few minutes of meditation daily will refresh you to a great extent.

Training & Exercises for older Adults!!!

Functional training may be described as exercise with a
purpose.Through effective functional training, older adults may be able to avoid and reduce physical degeneration associated with ageing. They need a longer warm-up because they have less muscular flexibility and joint mobility. With age, reflexes also become slower, making it more difficult to just get up and start a dynamic workout. An easy warm-up for them is walking or marching without hitting the foot on the ground. They can also bicycle or cross-train on a cross trainer at a light speed to increase their core and muscle temperature.

Use a foam roller

How our Eyes Dry

Do dry eyes bother you

More than half the people who wear contact lenses experience dry eyes at some point.

The eyes are coated by a thin film of tears made up of water, lipids (oil),mucin, nutrients and minerals. However, some people have a disturbance in this tear film and suffer from dry eyes. This abnormality disrupts the ocular surface and causes a variety of uncomfortable symptoms.

Causes of dry eyes

Aqueous (watery) tear deficiency is caused by either poor production of watery tears or excessive evaporation of the watery tear layer.Poor production of tears by the tear glands can result with age, hormonal changes,or various autoimmune diseases, such as primary Sjgrens syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis,or lupus.Evaporative loss of the watery tear layer is usually a result of an insufficient overlying lipid layer.

Back Pain Remedies

There are some simple remedies for back pain that give immediate relief.Follow these: Oil massage: Ayurveda says back pain is a vata symptom caused by maladjustment of gas within the body.Massaging with oil at the point of the pain is very soothing.Do not press the spine while massaging, but gently massage the muscles around it.Exposure to breeze should be avoided,so switch off fans and ACs.Cover yourself with a sheet and rest after the massage.

Hot packs:

Using a hot water bottle or sitting in a bathtub filled with warm water helps.

Temperature and back pain:

In winter, muscles shrink and old wounds and pains resurface.Current wounds also give more trouble.Likewise in summer, pain worsens with AC draughts.Avoiding direct breeze on the back,is,therefore, important.

Neck Pain

If you frequently suffer from neck and, shoulder pain, ache in the upper arm, giddiness, numbness in the fingertips, fatigue and a disturbed sleep, your problem might be cervical spondylosis. Spondylosis is age-related wear and tear of the vertebrae and discs in the neck region. It starts mostly after the age of 30 because vertebrae become rough and discs become thinner. Small bones are formed in between the vertebrae and cause compression over the nerves.

Advancing age, trauma, accident, occupational injury and bad postural habits are common causes of cervical spondylosis.

PreventionExercise your neck regularly. Keep it in a relaxed position and support it with a pillow to avoid injury. Try yoga or sports, but consult your doctor before doing so. If your job requires sitting for long hours glued to the chair in front of your computer, then try to take a break every half an hour and move your neck.

Breathe the right way for good health

Breathing right ensures a healthier and longer life by supplying enough oxygen to the body and reducing stress. It also calms down mind.
Proper breathing is key to good health.Besides ensuring sufficient supply of oxygen to the body, correct breathing also calms the mind.Slow, deep and conscious breathing ensures that we use our lungs to their full capacity. Most of us do not breathe deeply using our diaphragm. As a result, our breathing is shallow.
Oxygen helps our body cells use the energy from the food we eat to keep our organs functioning. As 70% of our body waste is discharged in the form of gases and particles, breathing helps cleanse our body.It helps boost the immune system, energy levels and overall health.Proper breathing helps us think positively and increases our confidence level. It also makes us open-hearted and helps us connect easily with others and experience compassion.

Breathing and weight loss

Thereis a link between weight loss and conscious breathing. When we are stressed, our body releases cortisol that converts protein into energy and releases stored sugar as fuel.It stimulates fat and carbohydrate metabolism for energy, and insulin release to maintain blood sugar levels.Correct breathing reduces stress, lowers cortisol, and reduces appetite and craving for food.

Nutrition - Importance in our Life

A healthy life is what you and your child deserve Nutrition is the focal point of health and well-being,and is thus very crucial for both mother and child, feel experts

Nutrition is a desperately neglected aspect of maternal, newborn and child health. The reasons for this neglect are understandable but not justifiable.More than a third of child deaths and eleven per cent of the total disease burden worldwide are due to maternal and child undernutrition.Low birth weight of babies has become a grievous issue in India.According to UNICEF one in three newborns in India is born with this scourge which is caused, mainly, due to child and maternal undernutrition. If mothers take good nutrition with essential dietary supplementation during and after pregnancy, this menace can be curbed, feel doctors all over.

Vitamin D Supplements

Various diseases have long been associated with the low blood levels of ‘vitamin-D’. It is general assumption worldwide that the ‘vitamin-D’ is a good supplement and helps preventing many diseases. Scientists however, feel that this existing assumption that hundreds of genes are dependent on vitamin D.
The evidences indicate that “increased vitamin D intake affects much more than just nutrition or bone health”. “Vitamin D Nuclear Receptor (VDR)” acts in the repression or transcription of hundreds of genes”. Such a condition includes the genes and they get associated with diseases and disorders of various types including cancers and multiple sclerosis.

Silent Killer - High Blood Pressure

What is high blood pressure?

High blood pressure (HBP) or hypertension means high pressure (tension) in the arteries. Arteries are vessels that carry blood from the pumping heart to all the tissues and organs of the body. High blood pressure does not mean excessive emotional tension, although emotional tension and stress can temporarily increase blood pressure. Normal blood pressure is below 120/80; blood pressure between 120/80 and 139/89 is called "pre-hypertension", and a blood pressure of 140/90 or above is considered high.
An elevation of the systolic and/or diastolic blood pressure increases the risk of developing heart (cardiac) disease, kidney (renal) disease, hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis or arteriosclerosis), eye damage, and stroke (brain damage). These complications of hypertension are often referred to as end-organ damage because damage to these organs is the end result of chronic (long duration) high blood pressure. For that reason, the diagnosis of high blood pressure is important so efforts can be made to normalize blood pressure and prevent complications.
It was previously thought that rises in diastolic blood pressure were a more important risk factor than systolic elevations, but it is now known that in people 50 years or older systolic hypertension represents a greater risk.

Dont Ignore Severe Headache!!!

When the brain is distressed,it sends out signals through severe headaches and migraines that there is something wrong with it.We should know that a headache can be serious if it is recurring,or is followed by vomiting, giddiness, blurring of vision, weakness or numbness in any part of the body,or is accompanied by loss of consciousness, seizures and fits.If any of these symptoms occur, visit a neurologist or a neurosurgeon immediately and get yourself thoroughly examined.Symptoms like depression, loss of memory, and loss of smell and hearing ability are also associated with more serious conditions in the brain.

Causes

Some of these symptoms can be caused by brain haemorrhage, tumours, water logging within the brain or infections like tuberculosis.Diabetes or hypertension can also lead to haemorrhages and brain hypoxia.Children can contract lifethreatening meningitis, which is characterized by high fever with seizures, stiffness of the neck and altered behaviour.
Tests like magnetic resonance imaging (MRI),computed tomography (CT scan) and lumbar puncture can help diagnose brain diseases. An MRI is harmless and can be done on children and pregnant women too.CT scans involve exposure to radiation and is better avoided by pregnant women.Once the diagnosis is done, the next line of treatment is decided by the doctor.

Bedwetting

Most children achieve bladder control by age five. However, about 20 per cent of boys and 10 per cent of girls may keep wetting their bed during sleep till about age seven or eight.Statistics suggests that approximately 1.0 per cent of boys and 0.5 per cent of girls may continue to wet their bed up to age 18 a major cause of psych o s o c i a l trauma.
There are two types of bedwetting.P r i m a r y bedwetting presents with a family history of bedwetting.Twins are twice as likely to be affected.Secondary bedwetting presents with delayed bladder control or unpleasant childhood events.Whatever the type, your professional homeopathic doctor will inquire as to whether your child has had certain delayed milestones, along with emotional or behavioural problems,or both.

Warning - Self Medication

Popping pills without a doctors prescription, even for a minor ailment, can have serious repercussions.
We often pop pills for common ailments like fever, colds, cough and headache, without bothering to consult a doctor.Self-medication,even for minor ailments, could lead to medical complications.Alarge number of potent drugs such as pain relievers, cough remedies,anti-allergies,laxatives,antibiotics,antacids and vitamins are sold over the counter (OTC).Self-medication with OTC medicines could cause allergy, habituation and addiction. For example, excessive use of vitamins can cause hypervitaminosis,or vitamin poisoning.Antimicrobial resistance is a worldwide problem, particularly in India where antibiotics are often available without a prescription. The dangers of self-medication could include these:

Self Love

Do you suffer from low self-esteem Do you wallow in self-pity You dont have to.We are conditioned to believe that loving oneself is being selfish and, therefore,we experience a sense of guilt.
Loving your own self doesnt mean ignoring your imperfections or being selfish it doesnt mean that you say,I am perfect and dont need to change. Loving yourself is not a selfish act.It does not imply that you must ignore the needs of others.Nor does loving oneself need to involve doing so with arrogance.
Instead,to love yourself involves personal awareness.Self-love means you pay attention to your feelings, your perspective. You are fully aware of your own needs while recognising the needs of others. If you dont feel fulfilled within, how can you properly reach out and become deeply fulfilling to others
If you cannot love and respect yourself for the person you are,how will others accept and love you If i dont enjoy my own company, how can i expect others to find me interesting Ask: Could you live with yourself on a deserted island

When Nothing Became Something

When you take the perennial meditative journey to the depths of your own self, you discover what it was like before the beginning. You come to rest in the timeless empty void before the Universe was born, which the mystics call the ground of Being. When you taste the profound freedom that is the inherent nature of that primordial ground,it can seem like the end of the path.Where else could there possibly be for you to go The very notion of seeking for liberation, for enlightenment, for meaning or purpose seems absurd. The question, who am i is answered before it is asked. And the question, why am i here, simply does not arise.
In traditional enlightenment, this is the end of the path. But the journey of evolutionary enlightenment does not end here. Why Because the cosmic experiment that is life did not end here.If that empty ground, where every question is answered, was all there was to know and to discover, why would the universe exist Why did something come from nothing

Obesity

Obesity means having too much body fat. It is not the same as being overweight, which means weighing too much. A person may be overweight from extra muscle, bone, or water, as well as from having too much fat.
Both terms mean that a person's weight is higher than what is thought to be healthy for his or her height.

Causes, incidence, and risk factors

Taking in more calories than you burn can lead to obesity because the body stores unused calories as fat. Obesity can be caused by:
  • Eating more food than your body can use
  • Drinking too much alcohol
  • Not getting enough exercise
Many obese people who lose large amounts of weight and gain it back think it is their fault. They blame themselves for not having the willpower to keep the weight off. Many people regain more weight than they lost.
Today, we know that biology is a big reason why some people cannot keep the weight off. Some people who live in the same place and eat the same foods become obese, while others do not. Our bodies have a complex system to help keep our weight at a healthy level. In some people, this system does not work normally.
Other factors that affect weight include:

Principle Of Dependent Arising

The principle governing pratityasamutpada or dependent arising also called interdependent origination and conditioned co-production is a cornerstone in Buddhist philosophical thought.Buddhist scripture informs us that by comprehending the doctrine, sentient beings begin to understand the nature of suffering and its causes in cyclic existence first and second noble truths (suffering and its cause). With the correct view of emptiness, free from the elaborations of the two extremes, they can practice the correct dharma and strive on the path leading to cessation of suffering fourth and third noble truths.
Indic philosophical systems were able to absorb and assimilate the religious symbolism of their vast pantheon of gods and goddesses both in the Vedic as well as the Buddhist Tantric traditions,to facilitate their quest for knowledge of the ultimate nature of reality as it exists,at an experiential level.

How to Live Happy!!!

Happiness is a context of being alive with the moment.Even a problem can make us alive. When you define happiness as when my desire is fulfilled i will be happy, you remain unhappy because problems, like the oceans waves, will keep coming. One has to enjoy despite the waves;one has to be happy despite problems. We should change our definition of problems as pain.Out of joy one should live life not f o r joy.Be happy and make others happy.

Why do we become restless when alone How to become restful in solitude. We are restless with ourselves because the self we know is empty, shallow, void and unhappy.Face this fact.We try to be busy because we want to avoid our inner void. When you are alone, you tend to feel fear, anger, disappointment and insecurity. And when you think only of yourself, you become greedy. So learn to heal your inner hurts, handle your greed wisely, manage your inner insecurity and transform your anger. Also learn to meditate.Once you learn to manage your life wisely, you will be at peace.

Glycaemic Index & Diabetes

The glycaemic index (GI) is a term used to measure the glycaemic response of food,or how quickly a food item gets converted into sugar and enters the blood stream in comparison to an equivalent amount of sugar.

GI and diabetes

The GI of glucose is taken as 100.The closer the GI of different foods to glucose, the more unsafe it is for diabetics.High GI value is 70 or more Medium GI value is 56-69 Low GI value is less than 55 Carbohydrate, protein and fat content of the same foods may vary in different parts of the world,so dont check foreign sites on the net for information on GI.

Three Kinds of People

The law of energy conservation states that energy can be neither created nor destroyed but can be changed from one form to another. For instance, chemical energy can become kinetic energy. There is no conflict or effort needed when energy is made to pass from source to destination in its current form. The difficulty arises only when it has to be converted from one form to another.Once these energies are controlled and directed in a desired way, they improve our physical conveniences.
Extending this law to our own consciousness,we come to observe that the law works the same in all dimensions. In non-awareness people do not respond but react to negativity;they dislike and nurture it for some time and then propagate it to others in the same form. The next receiver follows the same formula and there is a chain reaction.

Aerobic Vs Anaerobic Exercise

People are generally more familiar with aerobic exercises
than with anaerobic. What is the difference between the two Simply put, aerobic exercise is a low to moderate intensity activity sustained for a long duration, while anaerobic is a high-intensity exercise done for a short duration. In any aerobic activity, oxygen is required to keep muscles in motion.Aerobic exercises include activities that are continuous and of low to moderate intensity, like jogging, swimming, cycling and walking.

Basic difference:
Aerobic means with oxygen, and anaerobic means without oxygen. In anaerobic exercise, muscles make use of glycogen from carbohydrates. When glycogen is burned in the absence of oxygen,it gives off an end product called lactic acid, which causes muscle fatigue. That is why anaerobic exercise is limited to short durations and includes activities like sprinting and weightlifting.
