Obesity with Calories Intake

Obesity means having too much body fat,to the extent that it has an adverse impact on your health.What and how much you eat play a significant role in how much you weigh.Most fat calories,especially saturated fats and trans fatty acids found in junk foods,are immediately stored in fat cells,which add to the bodys weight and girth as they expand and multiply.Carbohydrate calories from cereals,breads,fruits,and vegetables and protein calories from fish,lean meat,skim milk,on the other hand,are converted into fuel almost as soon as they are consumed.

Count your calories

If your calorie intake is more than the calories spent,you put on weight.Certain foods like refined white flour carbohydrates combined with low-fibre intake may also interfere with food and energy metabolism.After the age of 40,the bodys metabolic rate slows down by 5 per cent every 10 years;and if you do not improve your eating habits,you will put on weight.Lack of physical activity and exercise results in low energy expenditure;the result is weight gain and obesity.Obesity tends to run in families,where members have similar diets,exercise regimen,attitude and lifestyle.In childhood,excess calories are converted into new fat cells,while excess calories consumed in adulthood only expand existing fat cells.Since dieting and exercise can only reduce the size of fat cells,not eliminate them,people who were obese as children would have greater difficulty losing weight.Certain medical conditions like thyroid gland disorder may result in weight gain.
Implications
Obesity makes you vulnerable to diseases,such as hypertension,high cholesterol,cardio-vascular diseases,stroke,diabetes,osteoarthritis,pulmonary diseases such as asthma and sleep apnea,cancer,menstrual irregularities,decreased fertility and pregnancy complications,leading to reduced life expectancy.How a person carries excess weight on his body may indicate his predisposition to develop certain diseases or conditions.Apple-shaped individuals who store most of their weight around the waist and abdomen are at greater risk of heart disease,stroke,cancer and diabetes than pear-shaped people whose extra pounds settle primarily in their hips and thighs.Other side-effects of obesity include emotional and social problems,and low self-esteem.Refer
